London Riots

Interesting to see that there is a line beyond which people starting putting up with shit, and start causing shit.

The London riots are not a rational response to the conditions of poverty, or to the capitalist structure that produced it. However, most of the rational responses have been closed to the people affected, or have been proven worthless as responses.

Perhaps the rational responses will come later as the community comes together in the wake of the riots to heal itself and to clean up. The real community activists will see have something to point to, and say "If you don't fund our alternatives, this is what happens."

The kids that are rioting today are the spiritual heirs to the kids who rioted in the 80's under Thatcher, and the sad part is that they are rioting for exactly the same reasons.

And I'll say one more thing on the subject. Assange may be doing very good work on Wikileaks. That doesn't mean that I'll defend him if the charges are true. Whether or not the charges are true is not relevant to whether WikiLeaks is a force for good or bad. There are sexist dirtbags in every single organization on the planet, from the Pentagon to Earth First!.

I've said from the start of this thing that the remarkable thing isn't that a famous person may have committed a sexual assault. The remarkable thing is that the women are getting listened to. That a sexual assault of this nature gets the accused put on top of Interpol's most wanted list.

The sad part is that, assuming the charges are true, Assange may not even realize that he is guilty of sexual assault. Far too many men still don't get the idea that sex you have with someone without their permission is rape, and that a sexual partner can remove their permission AT ANY POINT. Period. Full Stop.

No more Amazon for me

So, I've just deleted my Amazon wish list. I won't deal with a book seller that won't fight censorship. Period. Their cowardice on the wikileaks file makes them dead to me.

If the politicians let the massive theft of money from the public by the banks, then the Americans better get out on the streets and start literally tearing down the banks and emptying them.

Capitalism fails when risk isn't there. Regulators, auditors and CEO's should be going to jail, not rubber stamping a massive transfer of wealth from the taxpayers of the nation to the richest people in the world. It's appalling.

This kind of shit is what causes revolutions.

With a clear win in North Carolina, and what is for all intents and purposes a tie in Indiana, I just can't see how Obama can lose the nomination at this point.
