Shifting Ground
My mom's book has been published; Shifting Ground is the title of it. She sent me some reviews of it:
An exceptionally honest book illustrating the difficulties of coping with a bipolar family member, especially as throughout the marriage, the author was unaware her husband was mentally ill. In addition to the negative aspects there were joyful times and great adventures. Mel Hurtig: publisher Canadian Encyclopedia, author, political activist.Shifting Ground is on one level the story of the ups, downs, highs, lows, and turmoil of a woman's marriage to a man with undiagnosed bipolar disorder, providing stark glimpses into what it's like to live with manic depression, that will strike a chord with anyone who has ever been there. But the book is much more than that. Ultimately this is the story of a remarkably creative and resourceful woman and her journey through life, love, parenting, tragedy, and triumph toward self-discovery and survival. Dr. David J. Baxter, C.Psych. Ottawa, Ontario
Anyone with a loved one who has struggled with mental illness will recognize what the author endured for years – unpredictability, explosive temper, addiction, self-absorption, but also creativity, spontaneity and lovingness. They will also nod knowingly at her tales – from harrowing to hilarious - of life with a manic depressive man. Shifting Ground is a poignant reminder of how all-consuming the disease can become for partners, friends and family members. André Picard, Public Health Reporter, The Globe and Mail
Just figured I'd give her some linkage. My mom is so cool.
