Why I won't vote NDP (besides the fact that I'm an anarchist).

I just saw a campaign ad where they disparaged the liberal tax cuts for only cutting 20 dollars a paycheque. Assuming that they mean a biweekly pay period, that comes to five hundred and twenty dollars. If they are so out of touch with ordinary people that they can put an only in front of that, then they don't belong in power anymore. Once again faced with no choices at election time. Woohoo.

I've started playing with Fink for MacOSX. Very cool. I've posted a screenshotof my desktop showing me running Gnome under MacOSX. I've got apt-get for Apple's spanking new UNIX. Too cool. Free software has a new platform to infiltrate. If we're really lucky, Mac developers might start adding their knowledge of UI to the tech skills of the Gnu/Linux folks.

I think it's time for me to get politically active again. The 6$/hr starting wage instituted by the new BC government is just plain wrong. Functioning businesses do not need to pay less than a living wage. Yes, the BC economy needs help, but not that way. That is attacking the poor. That is wrong.

Had a nice long weekend. Two whole days. In a row. This was a good thing. I managed to finish getting the books done for VLUG, managed to get Debian on my iBook, and baked a few loaves of bread. I also did some garden work, and played on the internet. The only thing left to do is organize for Christmas, getting out the Christmas cards and buying presents. Nov 1, 2001

Off to the Computer Show this weekend, so I'm writing this from the Linux version of my ibook. Just making sure it works properly. Oct 30, 2001

Gung Ho! It's amazing how uncritical people have been of the war in Afghanistan. There is almost no debate about the methodology or even the morality of what's going on. Apparently there is proof that Bin Laden is guilty, but nothing has been released. We're supposed to trust the US that it has concrete proof. Whether they have the proof or not is important. Blindly supporting a war based on the say so of people I don't trust is not something I'm prepared to do. I want justice for what happened on Sept 11th as much as anybody, but I don't want blind revenge; I want real justice.Bill Maher's slap downwas not the sign of a functioning democracy. It's the sign of a nation that refuses to tolerate debate. I'm beginning to think my original optimism about Americans unwillingness to give up freedom for safety. Time to focus people. Remind yourselves that we're the side that is FOR freedom, and freedom is of no use if you can't excercise your freedom to dissent, even if you're wrong.
